Women’s Tennis Faces Seattle to Open WAC Tournament on Friday

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's tennis looks to compete for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament title this weekend in Las Cruces, N.M. at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
 
The Cougars, the fourth seed in the tournament, will face off against fifth-seeded Seattle U in a first-round match beginning at 10 a.m.
 
CSU currently holds a record of 7-15 and has captured wins in their last three matches following a 5-2 road win at Valparaiso on April 18.
 
Junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School), the reigning WAC Player of the Week, leads the Green and White with a 17-16 singles record and has posted a 9-3 doubles record with freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) that includes a 6-2 mark in the No. 3 flight.
 
Seattle U has notched a 9-13 season record after snapping a three-match losing skid at home with a 7-0 win over Puget Sound. The top player for the Redhawks is junior Michelle Lui, who is 18-13 in singles and 13-9 with fellow junior Madison Maloney in doubles.
 
The winner of Friday's match will take on top-seeded UMKC in a semifinal contest on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
