Women’s Tennis Closes First WAC Cluster against UMKC

Carynne Lloyd had a hard fought battle at No. 4 singles against UMKC
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Chicago State women's tennis closed out the first Western Athletic Conference cluster of the season today with a 7-0 defeat to UMKC at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
 
UMKC won two of the three doubles contests for a 1-0 advantage and later swept all six flights to claim the win.
 
Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and junior Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) fell to Melinda Johnson and Yana Grechinka by a 6-4 margin in the No. 2 doubles flight, while the No. 3 tandem of junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) captured a 6-4 victory over Aliona Ladutska and Katie Fries.
 
Lloyd had a hard fought battle at No. 4 singles against Grechinka before falling by scores of 7-6 and 7-5.
 
The Cougars return to action with the second WAC cluster at the Plaza Tennis Center on April 1 against New Mexico State beginning at 10 a.m.
