Kostyuk, Aubets Post Wins for CSU Women’s Tennis in WAC Opener

Junior Mariya Kostyuk posted wins in singles and doubles today in CSU's WAC opener against UTRGV

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) each posted wins in singles and doubles for the Chicago State women's tennis team as it opened Western Athletic Conference play here today with a 5-2 defeat to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the New Mexico State University Tennis Courts.

UTRGV posted wins in two of the three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 lead, but Kostyuk and Aubets produced a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 flight over Chloe Leclere and Amanda Guardia for the Green and White.

Aubets would even the match at 1-1 after recording a 6-1, 6-3 win over Guardia in the No. 6 singles contest. Kostyuk later defeated Dominique Esparza in the No. 1 flight via scores of 6-3 and 6-2.

The Vaqueros then posted wins in the other four singles matches to claim the victory, but two of those contests were played in three sets.

Junior Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) was defeated by Marine Darzyan by scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1 in the No. 3 flight, and senior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) dropped a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 battle in the No. 5 flight to Leclere.

CSU returns to action tomorrow afternoon against Grand Canyon beginning at 1 p.m.
