Women’s Tennis Completes Weekend Road Swing in Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Chicago State women's tennis team hit the road this weekend for a couple of matches through the state of Michigan in preparation for its upcoming Western Athletic Conference slate.

CSU dropped a 5-2 decision at Oakland on Friday night in Bloomfield before completing its slate today in Ypsilanti with a 6-1 defeat to host Eastern Michigan.

The Green and White opened the OU match with a 1-0 advantage after claiming two of the three doubles matches played.

Senior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) and junior Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) defeated Daria Artamonova and Amanda Nillson 6-4 in the No. 2 flight, while junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) posted a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Allison Motea and Sofia Borcuti.

Pangestu later claimed a three-set win in her No. 5 singles showdown against Nillson via scores of 6-2 in the opening set, 4-6 in the second set and 6-4 in the final set.

Oakland would capture wins in the other five single flights for the win.

In the EMU contest, redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) claimed CSU's lone point thanks to a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 win over Maria Paula Ribiero at No. 4 singles.

The Eagles produced an early 1-0 lead by winning two doubles matches and also later recorded five singles wins to close out the match.

The Green and White head to Las Cruces, N.M. next week for the first WAC cluster of the season where they will open against UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday, March 17 at 11 a.m.
