Kostyuk Earns Second Straight Singles Win at UIC

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's tennis team returned to action today as it kicked off a two-match road swing as it fell to local rival UIC by a score of 6-1 at XS Tennis.
 
The Flames captured wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to post an early 1-0 lead before winning five of the six singles matches to earn the victory.
 
For the second consecutive match, junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) produced a victory at No. 2 singles after knocking off UIC's Georgie Sanders by a 6-2, 6-3 margin.
 
Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) battled tough through three sets in her No. 4 singles contest against Bianca Zuzu. She posted a 6-3 win in the first set before losing the final two sets by scores of 6-3 and 10-8.
 
The Cougars conclude their road swing tomorrow morning against Northern Illinois at the Vaughn Tennis Center in Aurora, Ill. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
