Women’s Tennis Closes WAC Slate against Missouri-Kansas City

Monica Pulgar captured a win at No. 5 singles Sunday against UMKC
PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Chicago State women's tennis team concluded its Western Athletic Conference slate here Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 defeat to Missouri-Kansas City at the Park Forest Tennis & Health Club.
 
For the second consecutive match, the Cougars (3-17, 0-5) were led by senior Marnie Perez-Ochoa (Louisville, Ky./Male) and freshman Monica Pulgar (Madrid, Spain/San Jose de Cluny), who each captured singles wins and teamed up for another doubles victory.
 
UMKC (7-13, 2-3) posted wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles for a 1-0 early advantage, but the tandem of Perez-Ochoa and Pulgar earned a 6-0 shutout victory over Allie Schulte and Racquel Argenal in the No. 2 doubles contest for their second straight win.
 
Despite the Kangaroos claiming wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles positions, the Green and White did gain a pair of victories for their points.
 
Perez-Ochoa posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 4 over Argenal for her fourth consecutive singles victory, while Pulgar went the distance in defeating Schulte in the No. 5 contest via scores of 7-5, 2-6 and 6-0 to even her singles record at 15-15.
 
CSU are idle from competition until April 11 when it welcomes Oral Roberts to the CSU Tennis Courts with a start time of 10 a.m.
