Cougars Fall to Seattle, 6-1, to Open Second WAC Women’s Tennis Cluster

Senior Marnie Perez-Ochoa posted a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles Friday against Seattle
HOMEWOOD, Ill. – The Chicago State women's tennis team continued its five-match homestand here Friday night by falling to Seattle, 6-1, at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club to kick off the second Western Athletic Conference cluster of the season.
 
The Redhawks (9-10, 1-2) took a 1-0 advantage after capturing wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) and freshman Bryttish Burts (Olympia Fields, Ill./Rich Central) posted their third consecutive victory at No. 3 doubles after defeating Sari Kwee and Kristen James by a score of 7-5.
 
In the singles matches, SU captured five of the six contests, including four matches that were won in straight sets.
 
Senior Marnie Perez-Ochoa (Louisville, Ky./Male) recorded a 7-6, 6-3 win in her No. 4 singles match against Barbara Carey to earn CSU's lone point. Freshman Monica Pulgar (Madrid, Spain/San Jose de Cluny) captured the first set of her No. 5 contest versus Kwee before losing the final two sets by scores of 7-6 and 10-5.
 
The Cougars (3-15, 0-3) take on defending WAC champion New Mexico State later today at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club with a start time of 1:45 p.m.
