Women’s Tennis Falls to Oakland and Southeast Missouri at Home

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's tennis team (0-3) continued its seven-match homestand this past weekend with a pair of 6-1 defeats to Oakland and Southeast Missouri State at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill.

"Having a 0-3 record does not reflect the level that the ladies are playing. We have had some very competitive doubles matches in the last two contests," said CSU head coach Jack Barton.

The No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) and Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) posted a 6-2 victory over Oakland's Daria Artamonova and Sofia Barcuti for the Green and White's lone win against the Golden Grizzlies.

In the SEMO match, freshman Monica Pulgar (Madrid, Spain/San Jose de Cluny) posted a tough victory at No. 5 singles after defeating Annisa Warasanti by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 (6-1) to improve her dual match singles record to 2-1 on the year.

"I truly believe that the ladies will step up as a team and continue to work hard in practice. No team is taking us lightly so we have to work hard every point and I believe good things will happen," Barton added.

The Cougars return to the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club this Saturday, Feb. 6 against SIU Edwardsville beginning at 2 p.m.
