Women’s Tennis Captures 6-1 Win at Valparaiso in Season Finale

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Chicago State women's tennis team closed out its regular season schedule in good fashion Tuesday afternoon after capturing a 6-1 road victory at Valparaiso. It marked the first win for the Cougars since defeating Southeast Missouri State at home on Feb. 21.

CSU (3-18) had all three of its doubles teams claim wins to gain the doubles point. Juniors Marnie Perez-Ochoa (Louisville, Ky./Male) and Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 over Morgan Paras and Erin Staal, while freshmen Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Matea Roki (Etobicoke, Ontario/Silverthorn Collegiate Institute) defeated Paige Heuer and Cary Milanes by a 6-1 score at No. 2. The No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomore Faith Huckabee (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and freshman Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) notched a 6-3 win over Kaitlyn Hamel and Kathleen Hebble.

Gamboa started off the singles matches for the Green and White with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Michele Fredlake at No. 5 followed by Perez-Ochoa's quick 6-0, 6-1 victory over Paras in the No. 6 contest. Huckabee clinched the match for CSU after defeating Heuer by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

The final three singles matches went three-set limits with Pangestu winning at No. 1 and Roki coming back from a set down to win at No. 2.

Chicago State is now finished with regular season play and is preparing for the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Championship which will be held in Kansas City on April 24-26.
