OPENING TIP – The CSU men's basketball team returns to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center for a Friday night showdown against defending Horizon League champion Valparaiso on the WAC Digital Network broadcast with a start time of 7:05 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – The Green and White head into Friday's game with a season record of 3-6 is looking to break a five-game losing streak. CSU dropped its last game on Dec. 5 at DePaul via a 96-72 decision with three players scoring in double figures. Freshman guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) paced the Cougars with a season-best 22 points against the Blue Demons. Chicago State has four players averaging double figure scoring this season with junior guard Elliott Cole (Chicago, Ill./Powerhouse) posting a team-high of 14.3 points a game to go along with 3.3 assist per contest. Junior guard/forward Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) is the team's top rebounder with an average of eight boards per game while senior guard Kieran Woods (Chicago, Ill./Crane) has produced a Western Athletic Conference-leading 2.8 steals a game.

SCOUTING VU – Winners of six of its last eight games, Valparaiso has posted an 8-2 record on the year following Wednesday night's 69-63 road victory at Indiana State. The Crusaders were led by junior forward Alec Peters, who tallied a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds against the Sycamores, and redshirt senior guard E. Victor Nickerson also scored 15 points. Peters currently leads Valpo with averages of 16.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while senior guard Keith Carter is averaging three assists and 1.3 steals per contest. Sophomore guard Tehvonn Walker is second on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY – Valparaiso holds a 28-3 advantage in the all-time series with Chicago State and Friday's game marks the first meeting between the two teams in three seasons. The Crusaders claimed a 67-46 home decision over the Cougars on Nov. 23, 2012 as part of the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic with Jeremy Robinson scoring 10 points to lead CSU.

TYING CAREER HIGHS AT DEPAUL – Two CSU players equaled their career scoring highs on Dec. 5 as senior Jawad Adekoya (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) scored 17 points and junior Quron Davis (Chicago, Ill./Simeon) tallying 10 points.

A FAMILY AFFAIR – The Cougars have a family affair on this year's squad as junior guard Elliott Cole (Chicago, Ill./Powerhouse) and freshman guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) are cousins.

A FAMILY AFFAIR PT. 2 – It will be a brother vs. brother showdown as CSU's Jawad Adekoya (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) will take on his younger brother Jubril, who is a junior forward for Valpo.

FACING POSTSEAON COMPETITION - The Green and White will take on eight teams that competed in postseason play last season, including three NCAA Tournament teams in Iowa State, Valparaiso and New Mexico State. Other postseason opponents are Illinois (NIT), Green Bay (NIT), Seattle (CBI), Grand Canyon (CIT) and Oakland (CIT).

SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM - CSU had three men's basketball student-athletes were Academic All-WAC last season in Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer), Anthony Glover (Toledo, OH/St. John's Jesuit) and Kurt Karis (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North ). 

UP NEXT - CSU travels to Evanston, Ill., on Sunday, Dec. 13 to battle host Northwestern with a start time of 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
