Green Bay, Wisc. - The Chicago State women's tennis team won their second match in a row after defeating the Green Bay Phoenix 7-0 at the Western Racquet and Fitness Club on Saturday afternoon (March 8).
Freshman
Kirsa Utech (Nindorf, Germany/Meldorfer Gelehrtenschule) picked up her team-leading 12th singles victory of the season after beating Stephanie Londre 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore
Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Lauren Miketinac. Freshman
Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia/) was victorious over Claudia Negron 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore
Gema Bolado Yusta (Madrid, Spain./IES Lázaro Cárdenas) won 6-3, 6-0 over Rachael Menos. Sophomore
Sabrine Navarro (Melbourne, Australia/) finished singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Carly Van Nuland. The Cougars won the No.6 singles point because Green Bay did not have a player for that position.
In doubles play, Huckabee and Utech defeated Negron and Miketinac 8-0. Lloyd and Pangestu took down Londre and Menos 8-1 while Yusa and Navarro won by the same score over Peck and Van Nuland to wrap up the scoring.
Assistant coach
Javier Bernabe came away very impressed with the team's performance.
"We got the job done today and played well the entire weekend," said the the first-year assistant coach.
The Cougars saw their record improve to 5-10 which matches their win total from last season. Green Bay fell to 0-4 on the year. Chicago State heads to Orlando, Fla. for their Spring Break trip next week. Their first match of the trip is vs. South Dakota State on Tuesday (March 11). The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
