GLEN ELLYN, Ill. - Senior Samuel McKinney (St. Charles, Iowa/Interstate 35) finished first in the javelin for the Chicago State men's track and field team at the College of DuPage Invitational on Saturday (March 29). McKinney dominated the event, winning by nearly five meters after a toss of 49.45 meters

The Chicago State men won the 4x100 meter relay in 43.17. Freshman Tyler Whittler (University Park, Ill./Crete-Monee High School), senior Corey Scharf (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell), junior Denzel Tucker (Chicago, Ill./Leo) and senior Tyler Odom (Sacramento, Calif./Monterey Trail, H.S.) combined for the time.

In the men's 100, sophomore Kory Jackson (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) took fourth (11.13) and Whittler was fifth (11.19). Kory Jackson (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) also had a nice showing in the long jump, earning second place due to a jump of 6.49 meters. Kory's brother sophomore Kameron Jackson (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) turned in a third place showing in the triple jump (12.28 meters). Junior DeShaunte Lewis (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) ran the 800 meters in 2:02.63, good for third place.

The Cougars used 66 points to finish in fifth place of 11 teams.

"Despite the frigid weather, there were some bright spots for our team, particularly in the field events," Chicago State head coach Craig Collins said. "You don't expect great performances in terms of individual marks because of the weather conditions today, but a meet like this is good to see the mental toughness of our team. There is no bigger challenge to the pursuit of performing well than the cold."

Aurora won the team title with 153 points.

Chicago State is back in action on April 10-12 at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships.
