Waterloo, Iowa - The Chicago State women's tennis team fell to the Northern Iowa Panthers 5-2 on Thursday (Feb. 27) at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. Freshmen
Kirsa Utech (Nindorf, Germany/Meldorfer Gelehrtenschule) and
Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia/) both won in singles play in the loss.
Utech defeated Jieke Stroobant 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for her 11th singles victory of the year. Pangestu took down Sydney Wolfe 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.Â
The Panthers took the doubles point by sweeping the doubles matches. Stroobant and Erica Medlin beat freshman
Faith Huckabee (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Pangestu 8-3. Utech and sophomore
Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) suffered a 8-5 loss at the hands of Elvira Lopez and Astrid Santos. Sophomore
Marnie Perez-Ochoa (Louisville, Ky./Male) and senior
Karyn Emeralda (Jakarta, Indonesia/) lost 8-6 to Krissy Lankelma and Wolfe.
Northern Iowa won four singles matches which clinched the victory. Medlin was victorious over Perez-Ochoa 6-2, 6-1 while Santos won by the same score over Huckabee. Lloyd was beaten by Lopez 7-5, 7-6 and sophomore
Sabrine Navarro (Melbourne, Australia/) succumbed to Lanklema 6-0, 6-1.Â
The Cougars saw their record fall to 3-9 on the season while Northern Iowa improved to 6-6. Chicago State continues their three-match road trip in Iowa by taking on the University of Iowa on Saturday (Mar.1). The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
