GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Chicago State men's track and field opened the 2014 indoor season on Friday (Jan. 10) at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State.

DeShaunte Lewis (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) set a school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:52.91. His performance was good for third place. Sophomore
Kory Jackson (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) bested 13 other competitors to win the long jump with a 6.84 meter performance. The Cougars took third in the 4x4000 meter relay with a time of 3:27.66. Senior

Tyler Whittler (University Park, Ill./Crete-Monee High School), freshman
Gabriel Martell (El Paso, Texas /Austin) and freshman
Khalil Tookes (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge Area ) combined for the performance.
Whittler finished fourth in the 60 meter dash, recording a time of 7.20. Odom was eighth in the 300 meter dash (35.76).
"We have a lot of new faces and good talent on the men's team," Chicago State head coach
Craig Collins said. "DeShaunte carried over his cross country success into the indoor season by breaking the long standing 3k record. Kory's performance showed that his hard work is paying off. This season promises to be exciting with the talent acquired this year."
Team scores were not kept in the event. The Cougars continue their indoor season Jan. 17-18 at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
