“Overall our team did quite well,” Chicago State head coach
Craig Collins said. “Having scored more points for our men's and women's teams in our history of the GWC meet tells us that we are heading in the right direction as we transition into the WAC next year. Despite a lot of our young athletes being injured going into the conference meet, it shows that we were able to overcome and rally together to accomplish some outstanding performances. ?We brought home a lot of hardware in a lot of events where we struggled in the past. Tyler gets third in the 400 hurdles and Sam pulls out third in the javelin. These examples are what we see on paper, but in essence, there were so many other "little victories" that that go unnoticed but encompass the spirit and fortitude of our young talented team, and we are getting better. I can't wait to bring in our new recruits to watch us develop even further. I'm excited.”
Sunday was Chicago State's final Great West Conference meet for the program. Next year the Cougars are joining the Western Athletic Conference in all sports.
