URBANA, Ill. – The 52
nd ranked Illinois women's tennis team topped Chicago State on Sunday (March 31) afternoon 6-0 in a match played outside at the Kahn Tennis Complex. The two teams decided to play a format of four singles and one doubles simultaneously. Singles matches were worth one point apiece and doubles counted for two points.
At No. 1 singles Illinois' Allison Falkin defeated
Marnie Perez-Ochoa (Louisville, Ky./Male) 6-1, 6-0. Freshman
Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) fell at No. 2 singles to Aurdrey O'Connor 6-3, 6-4. Senior
Ruta Grinvalde (Cesis, Latvia/) lost to Julia Jamieson at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1. Singles play was rounded out by Emily Barretta topping freshman
Viviene Noel (Liege, Belgium/) 6-3, 6-3.
Chicago State lost the doubles point 6-0, 6-0 to 21
st ranked Rachael White and Melissa Kopinski. Freshman
Sabrine Navarro (Melbourne, Australia/) and junior
Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) took the loss for Chicago State in the match. Mysta played the second set while sophomore

“Considering the conditions outside I think we performed very well against a team as deep as Illinois,” Chicago State head coach
Jack Barton said. “Illinois fought for every point and they had to earn it. I saw some good stuff out of us and I think our hard work is paying off.”
Illinois improves to 9-8. Chicago State is now 5-14.
Chicago State returns to the court on April 7 against Nebraska Omaha. It will be the Cougars' final home match of the season. Start time is set for 9 a.m.
