Tulane Too Much For Chicago State 79-51

Foul trouble leads to Green Wave scoring run in first half

NEW ORLEANS – Chicago State men's basketball fell 79-51 in a non-conference contest at Tulane on Sunday (Nov. 18) afternoon at Devlin Fieldhouse. An extended Chicago State scoring drought over the first half's final six minutes turned a 21-all game into a 39-21 Tulane lead. The Green Wave held the lead the rest of the way.
 
The 18-0 run turned what had been a back-and-forth contest for the game's first 14 minutes.
 
“We're still learning to play as a group and we saw some good things and also some not so good things today,” Chicago State head coach Tracy Dildy said. “We ended up getting out toughed.”
 
Junior Corey Gray (Houston, Texas/Hightower) (Houston, Texas/Hightower/UIC) scored a season-high 16 points for the Cougars.
 
“Corey is starting to settle down and come into his own,” Dildy said.
 
Junior Matt Ross (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) (Dixon, Ill./Dixon/Sauk Valley CC) added 12 points. Junior Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg/Missouri State-West Plains CC) turned in 11 points. Senior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower/Iowa Western CC) entered the game as Chicago State's leading scorer. He was hampered by foul trouble and finished with three points.
 
Tulane's Ricky Tarrant scored a game-high 21 points. The Green Wave benefited from a 48-23 rebound advantage to score 22 second chance points.  
 
Tulane improves to 3-1. Chicago State falls to 1-3. Sunday's contest was the second for the Cougars in the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic The Cougars return to the court on Friday, Nov. 23 at Valparaiso. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. CT. The contest will also be part of the Cipriano Classic.
