Former Cougar Beckel Inks Pro Contract in Europe

Former CSU Cougar Tressa Beckel recently signed a pro contract to play for US Heffingen in Luxembourg
CHICAGO – Former Chicago State University women's basketball standout Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) recently signed a professional contract to play in Europe during the 2011-12 season for US Heffingen of Luxembourg's Diekirch League.

Beckel, 6-foot forward, is the fourth Cougar under current head coach Angela Jackson to have played pro basketball overseas following Jasmin Dixon (Croatia), Zondranika Williams (Czech Republic) and Kafayat Davies (Finland).

“I have worked for this moment for years to play professionally and it's really surreal," stated Beckel. “I'm so thrilled to start this new chapter in my life. Chicago State has prepared me to play the game as a team and win championships, and that's what I will continue to do here in Luxembourg!"

Last season, US Heffingen produced a 9-15 record en route to capturing seventh place in the Diekirch League standings.

The Waseca, Minn., native helped CSU achieve its best season in program history in 2010-11 by finishing with a school-record 24-10 mark, capturing the Great West Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and advanced to the semifinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational.

Beckel led the Green and White with a GWC-leading 18 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game during her final collegiate season, while recording nine (point-rebound) double-doubles on the year and was named GWC Player of the Week four times.

Beckel tallied career highs of 33 points at Cal State Bakersfield in the WBI semifinals, 12 rebounds against Texas-Pan American, six steals versus Saint Xavier and six blocks at Central Arkansas. She garnered First Team All-GWC honors and later captured WBI all-tournament team accolades at the conclusion of the season.

US Heffingen will begin its regular season in October.
