Women’s Basketball Clinches Share of Great West Conference Title with 71-57 Win at North Dakota

Courtney Waldon tallied a game-high 21 points at North Dakota in Great West Conference action

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Chicago State women's basketball had three players score in double figures, led by senior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie)'s (Sun Prairie, Wis.) game-high 21 points as it clinched a share of the Great West Conference title here tonight with a 71-57 win over host North Dakota at the Betty Englestad Sioux Center.

The Cougars set a new program record for most wins in a season as they improved to 19-9 (10-1), while the Fighting Sioux fell to 12-14 (7-3) on the year.

Waldon added three steals, three rebounds and a pair of steals in addition to connecting on five three-pointers. Junior Natalie Marlowe (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) (South Milwaukee, Wis.) tallied 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with six rebounds and six assists.

Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) posted 11 points along with game highs of seven assists and six steals for CSU.

Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) contributed nine points and a game-leading seven rebounds, and senior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) produced nine points and three blocked shots.

North Dakota was led by senior Mallory Youngblut, who had 16 points and five assists in her final home game. Redshirt freshman Katie Houdek added 10 points, while freshman Allyssa Wall recorded seven rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots.

The Cougars conclude the regular season in Newark, N.J., this Saturday afternoon with a Great West battle against NJIT beginning at 1 p.m.
