EDINBURG, Texas – Chicago State women's basketball had four players score in double figures as it concluded a four-game road swing today with a close Great West Conference battle against host Texas-Pan American at the UTPA Fieldhouse before capturing an 86-79 win.
CSU improved its season record to 16-8 (7-0), while the Broncs fell to 9-16 (1-6).
The visitors came back from a 42-29 deficit at halftime by scoring 57 second-half points and went 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds while forcing UTPA to shoot 30 percent from the field in the half to seal the win.
Senior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) led all scorers with 26 points, including 17 in the second half. Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) added 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds, while fellow senior Elana Wroten (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a season-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) rounded out the quartet with 11 points to go along with seven assists, four boards and three steals, and junior Natalie Marlowe (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) (South Milwaukee, Wis.) dished out a game-leading eight assists for CSU.
UTPA was led by sophomore Bianca Torre's 19 points. Juniors Ce'Monay Newell and Donna Jackson each added 13 points, junior Re-Shawndra Jackson produced 12 points, and junior Adanna Opara finished with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Green and White opens a two-game homestand at the Emil for homecoming next week beginning Thursday afternoon with a GWC contest versus South Dakota in its annual WBCA Pink Zone game which begins at 5 p.m.
