Women’s Tennis Captures Three Titles at Wright State/Dayton Fall Invitational

Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno captured the Rudy singles flight title at the Wright State/Dayton Fall Invitational

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's tennis team captured three titles and asserted its dominance in doubles at the Wright State/Dayton Fall Invitational on Oct. 1-2 at Thomas Cloud Park in Dayton, Ohio.

Joining the Cougars in the tournament were hosts Wright State and Dayton, and NAIA member Northwestern Ohio.

In the Rudy Doubles Flight, seniors Juan Rosalia and Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia/Taruna Nusa Harapan) (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia) produced a 3-0 record en route to winning the title for their second straight doubles tournament win this fall. The three-year letterwinners defeated Shaleigh McClintock & Shaye Warmar of Northwestern Ohio (8-1) and Wright State's Kayla Tuscany & Taylor Hines (8-4) before defeating WSU's Masha Peresetsky & Abby Lewis in the final by a score of 8-3

Sophomore Karyn Emeralda (Jakarta, Indonesia/) (Jakarta, Indonesia) and junior Ruta Grinvalde (Cesis, Latvia/) (Latvia) tallied three wins to claim the Rowdy Double Flight crown which included defeating Wright State's Chelsea Girgash & Megan McNamara in the finals. The duo also captured victories against WSU's Liz Steingass & Lizzie Clark (8-5) and Jessie Stambaugh & Nathalia da Silva from UNOH (8-3).

"Lia and Lina winning their second doubles tournament in two weeks, and Ruta and Karyn winning their doubles flight will give them some well needed momentum for the next tournament," CSU head coach Jack Barton said.

Juan Rosalina added another title as she won the Raider singles title with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Dayton's Claire McNulty, while Grinvalde came back from a first-round loss to win three straight to win the Rowdy singles consolation crown that ended with an 8-6 win over Girgash.

"I'm very proud of Lina winning her flight in singles.  She played very smart in the wind and cold weather," Barton added. "Ruta started slow these past few tournaments but winning doubles and winning 3 singles matches to win the consolation should build her confidence and mental stamina."

CSU is idle until Oct. 21-23 when it competes in the ITA Second Chance Regional, hosted by Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill.
