Women’s Basketball Opens 2011 with Battle at No. 19 Iowa State

Courtney Waldon scored 16 points and recorded a game-high four steals Sunday at No. 19 Iowa State

AMES, Iowa – Chicago State women's basketball opened the year 2011 with a battle against No. 19 Iowa State Sunday afternoon at ISU's Hilton Coliseum before falling to the host Cyclones by a score of 62-48.

Iowa State improved its record to 11-2, while the Green and White saw its record drop to 6-8 on the year.

Senior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) paced CSU with 16 points and a game-high four steals.

Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) contributed eight points and went 2-of-4 from three-point range, while senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) added seven points and seven rebounds.

Sophomore Chelsea Poppers led Iowa State with a pair of game highs with 17 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Hallie Christofferson added 17 points, senior Kelsey Bolte recorded 12 points and junior Lauren Mansfield dished out a game-high six assists.

The Cougars return to the Jacoby Dickens Center this week to begin a six-game homestand beginning Thursday night against Saint Xavier in their next-to-last non-conference home contest of the season. The opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.
