CHICAGO – Chicago State women's basketball closed out its six-game homestand in grand fashion Saturday afternoon as it defeated visiting NJIT in a Great West Conference contest by a score of 83-42 at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. The Cougars improved their season record to 12-8 (4-0), while the Highlanders fell to 5-11 (2-1).
Senior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and shot 5-of-7 from three-point range for the Cougars, who produced 16 steals for the game and held NJIT to 11 second-half points on 22 percent shooting form the field.
Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) added 16 points, while senior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) tallied a double-double of a career-best 17 rebounds and 14 points, and senior Elana Wroten (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) produced 10 rebounds. Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) recorded eight points, six assists and five steals.

The Cougars begin a four-game road swing on Jan. 27 with a Great West Conference game against Utah Valley at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. The opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., central time.
