CHICAGO – Chicago State women's cross country team posted a ninth-place finish at the second annual Huskie Open in DeKalb, Ill., on Sept. 11.
Leading the Green and White in the 5K race was freshman Jennifer Sanford (Hammond, IN/Morton) (Hammond, Ind.) as she placed 96th after crossing the finish line with a personal-best course record time of 24:09.88.
Junior Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capitol Heights, Md.) posted a PR course mark of 25:16.76 to finish 109th, while fellow classmate Markesia Taylor (Chicago, IL/Sullivan) (Chicago, Ill.) captured 114th place with a time of 26:01.01 and freshman Brionna Middlebrooks (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) placed 119th at a time of 26:29.52.
Junior Lanesha Sutton (Lansing, IL/Thornwood) (Lansing, Ill.) rounded out CSU crew and finished in 129th place in the meet.
“The Lady Cougars cross country team are challenging each of their races with the intent on running personal records and they have performed well at NIU. I am proud of them, and we are on schedule for the Great West Conference Cross Country Championships,” said CSU head coach Diana Muhammad.
The Cougars travel to downstate Bloomington this Friday afternoon to compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by Illinois State. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
