CHICAGO – Chicago State women's tennis (10-5) concluded its season slate on May 1-2 with a third-place finish at the inaugural Great West Conference Championship, hosted by the University of North Dakota at the Center Court Fitness Center in Grand Forks, N.D.
The top-seeded Cougars dropped a 4-2 decision to third-seeded Texas-Pan American in the semifinals before defeating second seed NJIT in the third-place match by a score of 4-0.
CSU gained its lone doubles win at No. 1 after senior Golda Rubina (Jakarta, Indonesia/Budi Murni) (Jakarta, Indonesia) & junior Dian Mayasari (Tulang Agung, Indonesia/St. Thomas Aquino) (Tulang Agung, Indonesia) knocked off UTPA's Luisa Cantu & Megan Bedeau by a score of 8-2.
In the singles portion of the match, sophomore Juan Rosalia Tejoprayitno (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia/Taruna Nusa Harapan) (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia) won her No. 3 singles contest over Bedeau by identical 6-4 scores, while Rubina claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Reatta Raty in No. 4 singles.
The Cougars bounced back the next day against NJIT by winning both doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The Tejoprayitno (Juan Rosalia and Juan Rosalina) sisters produced an 8-4 win over Ana Lidon & Anine Lovdal at No. 2 doubles followed by Mayasari and Rubina edging past Nina Mayevska & Isha Toor by an 8-6 margin.
Rubina cruised past Lovidal by scores of 6-3 and 6-4 in their No. 4 singles match before Mayasari closed out the match with a 6-2 win over Mayevska in the first set and was ahead 1-0 in the second set before she retired.
For their efforts, Rubina and Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia/Taruna Nusa Harapan) were honored by garnering All-Great West Conference honors. Rubina was named first team all-conference and Juan Rosalina claimed second team all-conference honors.
