Beckel's Double-Double Helps Cougars in 67-54 Win Over Ohio

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's basketball received a double-double from senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) en route to posting a 67-54 win over visiting Ohio on Saturday afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. The Cougars improved to 3-4 with the win, while the Bobcats fell to 2-4.

After trailing at the half by a 29-26 score, the Green and White outscored Ohio by a 41-25 margin behind a combined 23 points from Beckel and senior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) that included a key 26-6 run over a 12-minute span to take its biggest lead at 52-35 with eight minutes left in the game.

Beckel tallied game highs of 24 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four blocks to lead Chicago State on the day. Waldon added 13 points, including 11 in the second half, while senior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) tallied nine points and seven boards.

Junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) also contributed nine points, seven caroms and three steals, and junior Natalie Marlowe (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) (South Milwaukee, Wis.) dished out seven assists for the Cougars.

Ohio was paced by senior Carolyn Barnett's 19 points and two assists. Redshirt sophomore Alesia Howard added nine points and five rebounds, while senior Kamille Buckner recorded seven points, five boards and three steals.

The Cougars travel down south to Tennessee this Monday for a non-conference battle against Conference USA member Memphis with a start time of 7 p.m.
