Cougars Bounce Back From 13-Point Deficit to Defeat Valparaiso

Tressa Beckel scored 18 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in CSU's comeback win at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Chicago State women's basketball came back from a 13-point deficit in the second half and later scored the game's final eight points en route to defeating host Valparaiso Saturday afternoon by a score of 72-67. The Cougars improved to 4-6 with the win, while the Crusaders saw their record drop to 2-8 on the year.

Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) led the Green and White, who had four players score in double figures, with game high totals of 18 points and two blocked shots to go along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Senior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) tallied 16 points, five assists, four steals and two blocks, while junior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. Senior Elana Wroten (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) recorded 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

Valpo was led by Tabitha Gerardot's double-double of 17 points and a game-leading 10 rebounds on the day. Betsy Adams scored 16 points and Laura Richards dished out a game-high eight assists for the Crusaders.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Auburn at the Jacoby Dickens Center with the tip-off set for 1 p.m.
