MORAGA, Calif. – Senior Hajji Martin (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) scored 13 points and two blocks to lead Chicago State, but host St. Mary's jumped out to a 60-27 halftime lead en route to a 121-52 victory Tuesday night in a South Padre Island Invitational game at McKeon Pavilion. The Gaels, ranked fifth in this week's Mid-Major Top 25 by CollegeInsider.com, improved their record to 5-0, while the Cougars fell to 1-4.
Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) posted 11 points and seven rebounds with two blocks, while senior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) added 10 points. Junior Jamill Harris (Chicago, IL/Truman College) (Chicago, Ill.) contributed three assists and two steals for the Cougars.
St. Mary's was led by redshirt junior Rob Jones as he tallied a double-double with game highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars continue the SPI Invitational this weekend at the SPI Convention Center in South Padre Island, Texas beginning Friday afternoon against Georgia Southern with a start time of 12 p.m.
