Women’s Cross Country Post Peak Performances at GWC Meet

Freshman Jennifer Sanford recorded a PR time of 21:32.93 at the Great West Conference Cross Country Championships

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's cross country team posted several personal-best performances en route to an eighth-place finish on Oct. 30 at the third-annual Great West Conference Championship, hosted by Texas-Pan American at Los Lagos Golf Course in Edinburg, Texas.

 

Freshman Jennifer Sanford (Hammond, IN/Morton) (Hammond, Ind.) led CSU in the six-kilometer race by finishing with a personal-best time of 21:32.93, while junior Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capital Heights, Md.) finished with a PR time of 22:26.59 and junior Markesia Taylor (Chicago, IL/Sullivan) (Chicago, Ill.) posted a PR time of 22:36.00.

 

"I am extremely proud of the ladies who worked hard this season and who were able to peak their performances at just the right time, stated CSU Distance Coach Steve Powenski. “Jennifer ran the best 5K time in over 20 years by a CSU Lady Cougar. I look forward to working with them for the upcoming track seasons."

 

Freshman Brionna Middlebrooks (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) ran a PR time of 27:19.61, sophomore Sharifah Robertson (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) finshed with a personal-best time of 28:21.32, and junior Lanesha Sutton (Lansing, IL/Thornwood) (Lansing, Ill.) finished with a PR time of 28:37.60.

 

"The CSU women's cross country team has improved tremendously and I am very proud of each of them, and we ended up the season with personal records. Their hard work paid off and I look forward to indoor track season,” said CSU Head Coach Diana Muhammad.
