EDINBURG, Texas – The Chicago State women's tennis team continued its tremendous play at the National Independent Tournament by recording a 4-2 victory over host Texas-Pan American Saturday afternoon at UTPA's Orville Cox Tennis Center. The Cougars improve their season record to 13-3, while the Lady Broncs fall to 4-14.
The visitors started off the match with a win at No. 1 doubles as senior Yosefin Eliza (Jakarta, Indonesia/St. Vianney HS) (Jakarta, Indonesia) and freshman Lina Tejoprayitno (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia) recorded an 8-1 victory over Stephanie Willerding and Reatta Ratty.
Junior Golda Rubina (Jakarta, Indonesia/Budi Murni) (Jakarta, Indonesia) and sophomore Dian Mayasari (Tulang Agung, Indonesia/St. Thomas Aquino) (Tulang Agung, Indonesia) then captured a close 8-6 win over Megan Bedeau and Luisa Cantu at No. 2 doubles to help CSU claim an early 1-0 advantage.
Eliza moved up to No. 1 singles for the match and battled Willerding through three sets before capturing a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 decision, while Mayasari earned a default win over Cantu at No. 2 singles.
UTPA captured a pair of wins to close within 3-2 in the match. Lina Tejoprayitno lost to Malin Anderson by scores of 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 and sophomore Peggy Moore (Toledo, OH/Libbey HS) (Toledo, Ohio) dropped her No. 4 singles contest to Bedeau by a 6-1, 6-0 margin.
Rubina clinched the match for the Cougars after defeating Andrea Saletova at No. 5 singles by identical 6-2 scores.
