Box Score CHICAGO — Chicago St. lost to Eastern Ill. 4-1 on Wednesday. CSU faced 22 shots and made eight saves while generating seven shots, five on goal.
Darrien Gates II scored CSU's goal and put both of his shots on frame.
Bryant Garcia Santiago recorded eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
Jorge Leon added two shots, both on goal.
After Eastern Ill. built a 3-0 first-half advantage, the Cougars got one back when
Darrien Gates II scored to reduce the deficit. CSU also worked through several Eastern Ill. attacking stretches without conceding, including an early sequence with two shots and two corners and another before halftime that included four shots. In the second half, Chicago State again avoided conceding during an Eastern Ill. spell that included six shots and five corners.
Eastern Ill. generated a 22-7 advantage in shots and put 13 attempts on goal to CSU's five.
Bryant Garcia Santiago finished with eight saves in 90 minutes for the Cougars, while Gates accounted for the CSU goal and put both of his shots on frame. Leon also placed two shots on goal as Chicago State put five of its seven attempts on target.
Up next, the Cougars travel to Peoria, Illinois, to face Bradley University on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Shea Stadium.
