Chicago State Shows Resilience Despite Setback

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Chicago State lost to Bellarmine 6-0 on Saturday. The Cougars faced 25 shots, including 16 on goal, and recorded 10 saves while finishing with 11 shots and six on target.

The early stages required CSU to withstand repeated Bellarmine chances while the match was still level. The Cougars kept Bellarmine off the board through one stretch that included two shots and two corner kicks, then did the same during another run of five shots and four corners before the match moved out of its scoreless opening phase.

After Bellarmine built its advantage, Chicago State still put together several attacking stretches in the second half. CSU created three attacking actions shortly after the break, then added a sequence with three shots and two corner kicks, including corner-kick opportunities that led to follow-up shots. Later, the Cougars generated three more shots while trailing. For the match, Bellarmine finished with 25 shots and 16 shots on goal, while CSU had 11 shots and six on frame. Jabulile Mooketsi made 10 saves for Chicago State, and Jorge Leon put both of his shot attempts on goal.

Mooketsi recorded 10 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Leon put both of his shots on frame, leading the Cougars in shots on goal and tying for the team lead with two total attempts.

Up next, CSU hosts Eastern Illinois University on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago, Illinois.
