ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Chicago State (0-1-0, 0-0-0) fell to Lindenwood (1-0-0, 0-0-0) with a final score of 3-0 on Thursday at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium. CSU managed one shot on goal, while Lindenwood recorded 11 shots on target, securing the shutout victory.
The first period commenced with the Cougars seeking to establish their presence early through a pair of corner kicks within the first 12 minutes.
Bryant Garcia Santiago, anchoring the defense in goal, delivered crucial saves at the 18th and 21st minutes to keep the score level. However, Lindenwood managed to break through in the 27th minute with a goal by Philip Viberg Rasmussen, assisted by Luke Neely. Despite multiple fouls committed by Lindenwood, CSU could not capitalize offensively before the period concluded. At the end of the first period, Chicago State trailed 1-0.
The second period began with the Cougars looking to shift momentum, but Lindenwood maintained control early on. Santiago made pivotal saves at 56:39 and 61:26 to keep the game within reach after Lindenwood's attempts on goal. Despite the defensive efforts, Lindenwood's Luca Bartoni scored in the 62nd minute, assisted by Gabriel Tonks, extending the home team's lead to 2-0.
Chicago State responded with an attempt on goal by
Eamon Bridges in the 66th minute, but it was saved by Lindenwood's Quinn Closson. The remainder of the period saw CSU struggling to find the back of the net while continuing to withstand Lindenwood's pressure. Bartoni scored again in the 88th minute, assisted by Rasmussen and Ryan Holmes, sealing a 3-0 victory for Lindenwood as the period concluded.
Bryant Garcia Santiago made eight saves over 90 minutes, facing 18 shots and conceding three goals.
Eamon Bridges recorded the only shot on goal for the Cougars, testing the opponent's goalkeeper. Alexander Mutalibov added another shot attempt, though it was not on target.
Looking ahead, Chicago State will host Milwaukee on Monday, Aug. 24, at 8 p.m. CT. The match will take place at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago, Illinois.
