Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Chicago State (0-2-0) fell to the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (1-0-1) with a final score of 3-1 on Monday at Engelmann Stadium. The Cougars managed to score in the first half, but Milwaukee capitalized with two additional goals in the second half to secure the win.
The first period began with the Cougars taking an early lead when Alexander Mutalibov notched a goal in the eighth minute. CSU maintained pressure defensively, with goalkeeper Jabulile Mooketsi making crucial saves against Milwaukee's attempts, particularly denying a shot from Jack Wagner in the 12th minute.
Milwaukee leveled the score at 1-1 with a goal by AJ Wild, assisted by Dominic Zuniga, in the 23rd minute. Chicago State continued to challenge Milwaukee's advances throughout the remainder of the period, with Mooketsi stopping another key shot by Max Salas. The first period ended with the teams tied at 1-1.
Milwaukee seized momentum early in the second period, with Praise Ogwu scoring just 30 seconds after the break, assisted by Dominic Zuniga. Shortly thereafter, Ben Bausch extended Milwaukee's lead with a goal in the 49th minute, again assisted by Zuniga, bringing the score to 3-1.
Despite being down, the Cougars pressed forward, with
Eamon Bridges and Alexander Mutalibov generating shot attempts, though they did not find the back of the net. Milwaukee maintained its advantage, and Mooketsi recorded a critical save in the 64th minute to prevent further damage. The period concluded with Milwaukee holding a 3-1 lead.
Alexander Mutalibov scored one goal and took three shots, contributing significantly to CSU's offense. Jabulile Mooketsi, in goal, made four saves during the match, facing 19 shots.
Karma Bhagentsang managed one shot on goal, showcasing his effort in the attack.
Eamon Bridges also attempted to create scoring opportunities, tallying one shot in the match.
The next challenge for Chicago State takes them on the road to face the University of St. Thomas. The game is set for Thursday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. CT at South Field in St. Paul, Minnesota.
