CHICAGO, Ill. — The next chapter in Chicago State University history officially begins this week as the Cougar football team reports for preseason training camp in preparation for the program's inaugural season.
With just weeks remaining until kickoff, Head Coach Bobby Rome II and the student-athletes who have spent the past several months building the foundation of the program now turn their full attention to preparing for the first game in school history. Throughout camp, the Cougars will participate in daily practices, position meetings, strength and conditioning sessions, film study, and team building activities as they continue to establish the culture and identity of Chicago State Football.
"This is a day our coaches, student-athletes, alumni and supporters have been looking forward to," said Rome. "Reporting to camp means it's time to put all of the preparation into action. Our team has worked incredibly hard throughout the offseason, and now we have the opportunity to come together, compete and continue building the standard for Chicago State Football."
Training camp marks another milestone in the rapid development of the program. Since the announcement of football, Chicago State has assembled its inaugural coaching staff, signed its first recruiting class, welcomed student-athletes to campus, completed summer workouts, and watched excitement continue to grow throughout the University and across the city of Chicago.
The focus over the coming weeks will be on preparing for Opening Day while developing chemistry across all three phases of the game. Coaches will evaluate position battles, install offensive and defensive systems, and continue preparing student-athletes both on and off the field as they get ready for the historic season ahead.
The Cougars will make history on Saturday, August 29, when they host Roosevelt University at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, marking the first football game in Chicago State University history.
