Yurii Hoida Named NEC Men's Rookie of the Week & Prime Performer

CHICAGO, Ill. - The NEC has announced their weekly men's tennis awards for the week of March 31. Chicago State's Yurii Hoida was named as the men's rookie of the week after winning three matches on the weekend. 

Hoida won first of four matches after winning the number one singles match against Lukas Escher from Wagner on March 27 by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 to claim one team points for the Cougars.

On Sunday, March 29 against FDU, Hoida claimed two wins in both doubles and singles matches. He was paired with teammate Joao Teixeria where the duo defeated Gryffin Minor and Ben Wrann by a score of 6-3. Hoida then went on to win his singles match defeated Minor for the second time by a score of 6-2, 7-5. His weekend was enough to give him his first NEC player of the week award of his career. 

Hoida and the rest of the Cougars are back in action on April 3 as they battle Mercyhurst University from Youngstown, Ohio.
