STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Chicago State women's track and field team opened up Day one of the NEC Championships and ended the day with one conference champion on the day.
The Cougars were led by a championship performance from Makiyah Brewton in the long jump. Brewton captured the conference title with a leap of 5.95 meters, earning gold and leading a strong overall showing in the event for the Cougars.
On the track, Chicago State advanced multiple athletes to tomorrow's finals. Queanna Taylor qualified in the 60-meter dash with a 7.82, while Latonia Johnson also moved on with a 7.88. Katherine Thornton secured a finals spot in the 60-meter hurdles (8.97) and added another qualification in the 400-meter dash (59.34). In the distance events, Weronika Stanczak advanced to the mile final after running 5:10.31 in the prelims.
