Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Chicago State Men's Tennis opened its Spring 2026 campaign on Friday afternoon, falling 6–1 on the road to Western Michigan at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, while court three went to WMU by default. In singles play, junior
Yurii Hoida delivered the Cougars' lone victory of the day, battling back for a three-set win at the No. 2 position. After dropping the opening set 4–6, Hoida responded with a dominant 6–2 second set and closed out the match with a 10–5 super-tiebreaker.
Chicago State showed competitive stretches across the lineup, including a strong early push from
Joao Teixeira at No. 3 singles before he was forced to retire.
Chad Valdes and
Reed Gahagan each fought through extended rallies in their respective matches, while
Justin Atkins made his dual-match debut at No. 5.
Western Michigan claimed victories on courts one, three, four, five, and six to secure the team win.
The Cougars will host the University of Louisville on Sunday, January 18 at 5 p.m. at H-F Racquet & Fitness Club.
