CHICAGO, Ill.— Chicago State volleyball wrapped up play at the UIC Tournament on Saturday afternoon, showing fight and energy in a straight-set matchup against the host Flames inside Credit Union 1 Arena.
The Cougars were led offensively by
Nayella George, who tallied six kills while hitting .188, and
Vasiliki Dagre, who added seven kills and a .294 attack percentage.
Jocelyn Carter contributed five kills, three blocks and eight total points, giving CSU a lift at the net.
Defensively, libero
Alyssa Ferreira anchored the back row with 15 digs, while George added six and Carter chipped in six of her own. At the net, Chicago State out-blocked UIC 12-7, highlighted by George's three block assists and Ferreira's strong passing presence that steadied the Cougar defense.
After dropping the opening two sets, Chicago State put together its strongest stretch in the third, hitting .105 as a team while registering 15 kills and six blocks to push UIC deep into the frame before the Flames closed it out, 25-22.
With the match, Chicago State concludes its stay at the UIC Tournament and will look to carry its growth and competitive spirit into the upcoming stretch of non-conference play.
