Cougars Score Late First Half Goal to Force Draw with Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Chicago State University women's soccer continued their non-conference portion of their schedule making the trip south to face off with the Southern Illinois Salukis. After conceding first, the Cougars were able to respond to score the game tying goal late in the first half to force the draw.

In the first half, the Cougars saw an early deficit as Southern Illinois found the back of the next in less than 20 minutes of play and fell behind 1-0. However, it late in the first half  where Chicago State found the equalizing. Gabby Flores found the back of the net from the top of the box with a quick shot after a Maya Dixon cross found Flores on the run for her third goal of the season. 

The Cougars put out 12 shots on the night with six being on goal. Goal scorer Gabby Flores led Chicago with five shots as both Maya Dixon and Renee Davis had two each. Aviana Gutierrez had five saves who help preserve the draw. 

Looking ahead: With this tie, the Cougars move to 2-3-3 and the conference portion of the schedule looms closer. Chicago State will conclude their non conference schedule with their third of four straight road games on Sunday September 14 as they take on Valparaiso University with kickoff set for 1:00 PM.
