Chicago, IL – A strong second-half performance propelled Saint Francis to an 81-69 road victory over Chicago State on Saturday afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
The game remained tightly contested through the first half, with the Red Flash clinging to a narrow 42-41 lead at the break. Chicago State found early success behind Gabe Spinelli, who led all scorers with 23 points, including a strong first-half showing. However, Saint Francis turned up the intensity in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 39-28 to secure the win.
Jeremy Clayville led Saint Francis with 17 points, hitting five of six three-pointers, providing a major boost off the bench. Daemar Kelly and Valentino Pinedo added 13 and 14 points, respectively, while Juan Cranford, Jr. recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Saint Francis capitalized on efficient shooting, finishing the game at 54.5% from the field and a blistering 52.4% from beyond the arc. The Red Flash also held a 36-24 rebounding advantage, dominating second-chance opportunities.
Despite Chicago State's best efforts, the Cougars struggled from three-point range, shooting just 23.3% (7-of-30) from deep. Jalen Forrest chipped in 17 points for Chicago State, while Quincy Allen added 14 and eight rebounds.
Saint Francis took control midway through the second half, using a 10-2 run to stretch their lead to double digits with just under seven minutes to play. Chicago State never recovered, as the Red Flash closed the game strong to improve to 10-15 on the season (5-6 conference).
Chicago State, now 4-21 (4-6 NEC), will look to bounce back in their next contest.
