Chicago State Falls Short in Second Half Surge, Drops Close Contest to Central Connecticut State, 81-75

Cox lead with 20 points, 10 rebounds

CHICAGO - The Chicago State's men's basketball team couldn't hold onto a strong first-half lead, ultimately falling to Central Connecticut State, 81-75, in a closely contested battle at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

The Cougars jumped out to a commanding lead in the first half, heading into the break up 36-26 after a sharp-shooting performance, highlighted by Dailliss Cox's inside dominance and Noble Crawford's perimeter shooting. Cox recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, leading Chicago State in scoring and controlling the paint with a relentless effort on the boards.

However, Central Connecticut State responded with an offensive surge in the second half, shooting an impressive 70.8% from the field, including 66.7% from three-point range. Jordan Jones led the Blue Devils with 18 points, going 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, while Abdul Momoh provided a dominant inside presence, finishing with 19 points and 4 rebounds.

Despite the Cougars' early momentum, CCSU outscored Chicago State 55-39 in the second half, fueled by a 13-0 run midway through the period that shifted the game's momentum. Chicago State struggled to contain CCSU's efficient offense, with Central Connecticut shooting 55.1% from the field for the game.

Chicago State's Jalen Forrest contributed 15 points, including going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, while Quincy Allen added 11 points and 5 rebounds, knocking down key three-pointers to keep the Cougars within striking distance. Noble Crawford also had a solid all-around performance with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Cougars showed resilience, cutting a 10-point deficit down to four in the final minute, but key free throws from Central Connecticut down the stretch sealed the victory for the Blue Devils

Central Connecticut State was led by Abdul Momoh who posted  19 points, 4 rebounds while Jordan Jones added 18 points, 4 assists. Devin Haid was also in double figures with 16 points.

Chicago State will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they host Wagner on Saturday in the last home contest for the 2024-25 season.
