CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago State men's basketball team tipped off its 2025-26 campaign on Monday night at Wintrust Arena, showing promising stretches in a 92-62 setback to DePaul.
Forward
Marcus Tankersley led the Cougars with
16 points and nine rebounds, anchoring the effort on both ends of the floor. Newcomer
Stephen Byard provided an immediate spark off the bench with an efficient
16 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-6 at the free-throw line.
Guard
Braelon Bush added
six points, four assists and four rebounds, while
Doyel Cockrill III chipped in
10 points and connected on two triples. The Cougars outscored the Blue Demons in second-chance points in the second half and showed strong improvement offensively, hitting
42 percent from the field after halftime.
After falling behind early, Chicago State settled in and found a rhythm behind its guard play and defensive energy, posting 41 second-half points and forcing 12 DePaul turnovers.
