Women's Soccer Fall in NEC Battle to Delaware State

DOVER, DE. - The Chicago State women's soccer team was back on the road Thursday night as traveled back out east to battle the Hornets from Delaware State University in an NEC showdown. It was the third so far this season the Cougars have traveled to play near the Atlantic Coast this season. The Cougars were dominant on the offensive end of the field, but could break through to get on the board. A late goal by the Hornets was the lone deciding factor to hand the Cougars their sixth loss of season.

Chicago State showed dominance in the first half as they held possession for most of the contest. Out-shooting the Hornets eight to one, the Cougars had great looks on net and were able to convert half of those on net. The Hornets were able to hold off Chicago State as the half ended in a stalemate 0-0.

The Cougars once again had plenty of good looks on net in the second half putting together six shots. Delaware State answered the with a more equal possession time and it paid off. With less than five minutes to go, the Hornets were able to break the tie. The goal was enough as Chicago State fell to the Hornets by a 1-0 score.

Renee Davis came off the bench to lead the Cougars in shot attempts with four total. Followed by Ameerah Kolleff with three. Kolleff has been the leading shot taker for Chicago State, who continues to find good looks for the Cougars. Seniors Veronika Avila and Saige Thor also had great looks at the goal. In goal Aviana Gutierrez made two saves on the night.
