Cougars Fall in 2OT Heartbreaker at Stonehill

EASTON, MA - Chicago State (1-17, 1-2 NEC) dropped a heartbreaking, 77-75, double overtime contest to Stonehill (7-9, 3-0 NEC) on Thursday night Merkert Gymnasium

Josie Hill led the charge for the Cougars with 20 points and eight rebounds, showing her consistency on both ends of the court. Aiyanna Culver contributed 16 points, including key buckets in the fourth quarter and overtime that kept the Cougars within striking distance. Despite shooting 42.5% from the field and dominating inside with 48 points in the paint, Chicago State struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just three of their 12 attempts.

The game was tightly contested throughout, with both teams trading leads in the final moments of regulation and overtime. Stonehill's ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities, scoring 18 points off offensive rebounds, proved to be the difference.

Sharn Hayward was the standout performer for Stonehill, scoring 28 points, including six three-pointers, while Kylie Swider added a critical 24 points and 16 rebounds. The Skyhawks relied on timely shooting and a strong presence in the paint to fend off the Cougars in a game that featured 21 lead changes and 11 ties.

The Cougars head back to Chicago and are next in action on the hardwood on Jan .18 when they travel to Syracuse to take on LeMoyne.
