Stonehill Holds off Cougars in Dramatic Finish

Gabe Spinelli scores season-best 25 points

EASTON, MA - In a tightly contested battle featured 10 lead changes and three ties, the Stonehill Skyhawks came away victorious with a 75-73 win over the Chicago State Cougars (2-19, 2-4 NEC) with a last second winner at time wound down.

Chicago State's Gabe Spinelli's game-high 25 points kept the Cougars within striking distance, and Jalen Forrest contributed 23 points, showing his ability to score in crucial moments.

With the score tied at 73 and just seconds remaining, Stonehill turned to Josh Morgan. The senior guard delivered under pressure, driving into the lane and sinking a layup that would ultimately decide the game. Chicago State had one last opportunity to respond, but their final shot fell short as the buzzer sounded.

The Cougars who trailed at the break, emerged from halftime with a renewed sense of urgency. Gabe Spinelli orchestrated the offense masterfully, driving into the paint and connecting on 10 of his 13 field goal attempts. Jalen Forrest provided a spark with his aggressive play, hitting timely shots to close the gap. By the midway point of the second half, the Cougars had erased their deficit and briefly took the lead.

Stonehill outshot Chicago State, finishing with a 52.7% field goal percentage compared to the Cougars' 48.2%. Despite Chicago State's strong second half, turnovers and missed opportunities in the first half loomed large. Stonehill's bench also played a crucial role, outscoring Chicago State's reserves 25-23.

Stonehill's Louie Semona's added 21 points while Josh Morgan added 11 points, including the game-winner. Stinson recorded a double-double, tallying 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
