The Chicago State men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University at the Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington, Indiana today. For the third consecutive race, the women's 4x100m relay team of
Myshell Hurse,
Rikki Gray,
Shamauri Brackett and
Sanaa Parker broke their own school record with a time of 46.03. The mark was the third consecutive race where the team set a new school record, running 46.63 in the qualifying heat at the Penn Relays then bested that time in the finals of the same meet with a time of 46.49. In addition to the relay team,
Brenda Jepkoech broke her own school record in the 3000m, shaving over 30 seconds off her previous mark, crossing the finish line at 10:25.99, besting the previous mark of 10:57.86.
Other highlights included personal best by
Nikai McNee in both the long jump (6.87) and triple jump (14.60),
Nicholas Negru in the 3000m (9:14.41) and
Maxwell Mitchell in the 400m (50.21). On the women's side, in addition to the 4x100 meter relay team,
Madison Morgan set a PR in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.65.
