The Chicago State men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season this weekend at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Both the men and women were able to participate in their events Friday before inclement weather wiped out Saturday's schedule and cut short the two-day event. After 13 events, the Cougars men placed seventh out of 17 teams while the women placed 10th out of 16.
Mychah Spells qualified third in the 110m hurdles with a personal best 14.82 then finished third in the finals just below that clip at 14.96. Other highlights included second-place finishes by two relay teams with the Cougars 4x200 relay team of
Rikki Gray,
Sanaa Parker,
Myshell Hurse and
Shamauri Brackett ran 1:41.34 and the men's 4x400 squad of
Maxwell Mitchell,
Jovanni Avila,
Willie Merrick and
Boris Mojsa crossed the line at 3:28.98.

The track & field teams will be back in action April 5-6 at the Tennessee Invitational at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
