Box Score Illinois State won a tiebreaker in doubles and came out on the winning side of two three-set matches to earn a 6-1 victory over Chicago State in men's tennis Saturday at the Park Forest Health Club in Park Forest. The Redbirds clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 just before
Pedro Alvarez and
Max Sandoval teamed for a win at No. 1. In singles, Alvarez won in straight sets at No. 1 for the Cougars lone point but CSU pushed ISU to three sets at both No. 3 and 4.
"I thought the guys played well," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We lost the doubles point by the closest of margins. We stayed in it till the end. ISU just shut the door before we could get a win on the last three courts. I'm seeing the progress, we just have to stay the course."
