Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team traveled to Teaneck, New Jersey in a showdown for the top spot in the Northeast Conference standings and in a back-and-forth match, the Cougars earned a 3-1 win to stay alone atop the NEC standings with a 9-0 mark.
Chicago State won the first game 25-20 in game featuring eight ties, the last at 19-19 when the Cougars won six of the last seven points to close out the game. In game two, Chicago State had two match points turned back and ultimately lost 27-25. FDU carried that momentum into game three, jumping out to a 10-1 lead but the Cougars battled all the way back, turning away two match points to get their first tie at 24-24 for an eventual 28-26 win. Game four had two early ties, the last being 7-7 before Chicago State eventually fought to a six-point lead, 21-15 and traded points for the five-point win, 25-20.
Patrycja Lagida led all players with 17 kills, followed by
Zahara Quraishi with 16.
Karly Klaer had 12 digs and
Wiktoria Zagumny had 47 assists.
With the win, Chicago State improves to 9-0 in the NEC and 13-8 overall while FDU drops to 7-2 and 17-7 overall. The same two teams will play the second of back-to-back matches Saturday at noon CT.
